Changing Wax Filters on Marvel Hearing Instruments

Posted July 18, 2019

As clever as the new Marvel hearing instruments are, the new wax system is a little tricky to use.  So we thought this video would be a useful tool.

But, first let us clarify the terminology!  The systems that most hearing aid manufacturers use to protect the speaker of the hearing aid from wax is called a ‘wax filter’.  We think this is confusing.  It’s not that we are filtering the wax, but rather providing a barrier between the wax and the speaker.  We like to refer to them as ‘wax baskets’ as this is a bit more accurate.

With the new CeruShield wax basket there is a small pin in the middle of the basket that the removal tool grabs to lever out the current basket.  We’ve had a few instances when this pin has been bent because the speaker (receiver) of the hearing instrument hasn’t been lined up perfectly before being placed into the removal tool.  Keep in mind that if you hold the rectangular part of the receiver, that the end piece is not parallel.  It’s worth just checking before you put it into the removal too.

If you have any problems, come in and we would be happy to change the filters for you.
